Default fuel & security surcharges must be eliminated!

The current surcharges for int'l air cargo are .65 per kg for fuel and .15 per kg for security. Meanwhile you can get a spot rate of .30 per kg for normal airfreight.

Can anyone give an accounting of exactly what my .15 per kg buys me security-wise? Isn't that simply a fixed cost that should be rolled into the base rate?

And when is the much-referred-to fuel index going to be readjusted to reflect the fact that higher fuel costs are permanent?

Help! We customers are choking on surcharges!

Let us march!

Default Regulators Probe Air Cargo Surcharges

Clearly, you are not the only one questioning surcharges in the air freight sector. The governments of the EU, US, and Korea launched a probe of possible price fixing in February. Not much has emerged yet, but FedEx and UPS were contacted by US regulators seeking more information. I'm not aware of any charges filed yet. Is anyone else out there having issues with this?
